I TANFORAN TURF NOTES hB Gene "Beans" Kennedy has received notice of his appointment as outrider for the coming Hollywood Park meeting. Kennedy, who serves in a like capacity at Santa Anita, has on numerous occasions thrilled the spectators with his remarkable captures of runaway horses. Frank Boynkin, who operated a vanning service for horses, was instantly killed Tuesday when the truck which he was driving was struck by a train near the Bay Meadows track. Boynkin, who had waited for a southbound train to pass, drove directly into the path of the Southern Pacific flyer, The Lark. He was a resident of Santa Barbara. The three-year-old Young Ward, which bowed a tendon during the running of the fourth race, Tuesday, will be turned out for several months. The colt is owned by Stilley and Burghardt. R. C. Butard has retained M. Robertson as trainer for his stable. Robertson, who is a brother of apprentice Jack Robertson, will have charge of Indian Dream. JHe replaces C. Wilhelm. R. Busby was an arrival from Calientc with Shasta Rey and Reveille Lad. Sky Glare, which bled while galloping to the post, Tuesday, and was ordered scratched by the stewards, has been placed on the barred list until further notice. The first issue of the condition books for the coming Bay Meadows meeting were distributed among the horsemen Thursday. Two stakes, the Bay Meadows Handicap and the Decoration Day Handicap, have been left open. The filly, Heartless Girl, has been sold by E. A. Nealy to Miss Diana Marie Gilmorc and will start in her owners silks, Thursday. E. Harrill will do the training. Francis Albertani, new publicity director for Bay Meadows, was an arrival from Los Angeles, where he viewed the Louis-Roper ! championship fight. J. W. Becker has purchased the four-year-old maiden gelding, Queens Protege, from the Szanse Stable. J. Gironda will continue with the training. Easter Ele, which was running a very high temperature Thursday morning was ordered withdrawn from the third race on that day. W. B. Finnegan, trainer for the Circle M Ranch, will ship the entire stable to Hollywood Park at the conclusion of the Tanforan meeting. Trainer A. Dunne will leave for New York the latter part of the week to purchase several horses to race in the interest of Chester Lauck and Don Ameche, screen and radio stars, during the Hollywood Park and ensuing meetings. Trainer E. L. Fitzgerald, of the Northway Stable, was a visitor. He reports that he has some very likely looking two-year-olds by Gallant Sir and Plucky Play at the farm, and that they may be raced at Bay Meadows during the latter part of the meeting. Ex-jockey L. Hyder, who is in the employ of trainer Ross Cooper, narrowly escaped death Thursday morning when a two-year-old which he was galloping, fell and rolled on him. Hyder was taken to the Mills Hospital at San Mateo. F. R. Long, Los Angeles businessman, who owns Emily M., flew from the South in his private plane to witness his filly in action Wednesday. Long will later fly east for the Kentucky Derby. I George W. Schilling, presiding steward at Caliente, left for the South after having spent a few days at Tanforan. He will return next week to take up his duties at Bay Meadows. Trainer Earl Beezley reports that The Shinglers recent injury will keep him out of training for some time. Racing secretary John Maluvius will leave for Hollywood Park at the conclusion of tho Tanforan meeting. Maluvius will serve a3 assistant to Webb Everett at the Inglewood track. Training activities at Tanforan were curtailed somewhat Thursday morning as a number of stables are shipping down the peninsula to Bay Meadows. The birth of a baby son worked wonders for jockey Frank Chojnacki. The day after the infant was born Chojnacki rode three winners out of three mounts at Tanforan.
