YEARLING JUDGING CONTEST LEXINGTON, Ky., April 20 The 1939 Judging Contest for yearling fillies, sponsored by The Thoroughbred Club of America, was held in the Keeneland paddock today, with fourteen fillies being displayed. Several hundred ballots were cast. The judging of yearling colts will take place Friday. The contest is open to the public, with patrons purchasing ballots at a small fee. It is determined by the money winnings of the fillies as two-year-olds in 1940, with second, third, fourth and fifth choices being considered to break ties. Patrons are given programs showing the pedigrees of the entrants, and selections are made after the youngsters are judged according to their conformations. Proceeds of the sale of ballots, together with sums given by Keeneland and The Thorough Club are used to purchase the prize to be awarded to the person turning in the winning ballot.
