OPEN LINCOLN FIELDS MAY 1 Crete Track to Inaugurate Chicago Race Season on May 25. Plant Being Prepared, However, for Reception of Horses and Track for Training Work. Although wet weather the past ten days checked the progress of outdoor work being done at Lincoln Fields, track superintendent Tom Young hopes to have the stables and race course ready for thoroughbreds by May 1. Only a small amount of work had been completed before the stretch of bad weather set in, and Young says a weeks time will be required to finish stable repairs and to work the racing strip into shape. Until everything is in order, no horses will be permitted inside the grounds. At Washington Park, where quite a number of stables scheduled to participate in the Lincoln Fields meeting will be stationed, the situation is much the same, and a period of dry weather will be necessary to bring the track into suitable condition. Horsemen planning to ship thoroughbreds to either of these tracks must secure permission either from Tom Young or John Jackson, general manager of the Homewood track. Meanwhile, requests for stalls are reaching the Lincoln Fields offices in almost every mail delivery, and it is apparent that Chicagos first meeting of the season will not want for racing material of high quality. A large percentage of the principal western stables already have been assigned accommodations. A recent addition to the list was a division of Warren Wrights Calumet Farm stable. C. Bruce Head, general manager of Lincoln Fields, is coming here Monday from Kentucky and upon his arrival will release nomination blanks for the various early-closing features and also the first program book for the meeting opening May 25.
