SHARE DERBY WORK HONORS Xalapa Clown, Lightspur and Tack Point Each Work Mile Over Churchill Downs Track. LOUISVELLE, Ky., April 20. Mrs. Bessie Franzheims Xalapa Clown, John Marschs Lightspur, and Brown and Fetters Tack Point shared the limelight among Kentucky Derby nominees seen in training efforts at Churchill Downs this morning. They were sent a mile each over the prevailing fast track, but j they worked well out in the track to avoid the deep and cuppy footing next to the inside rail. Xalapa Clown carried off honors as far as time was concerned, but Lightspur and Tack Point also impressed, and there was very little to choose among their performances. The Franzheim colt ran the eight furlongs in 1:43, while Lightspur ran the distance in 1:44, and Tack Point was timed in 1:44. All of them worked handily to reflect the careful prepping they have received over the local course. Gay Troubadour worked with Xalapa Clown the last five furlongs, but he was unable to extend the Derby horse, and at the end of their trip was about three lengths behind Xalapa Clown. The Franzheim colt ran the first quarter in :24, the half-mile in :50, and three-quarters in 1:16, and the move was the best he has shown on a fast track since his arrival some weeks ago from California. Lightspur and Tack Point worked together, although the Brown and Fetter horse broke almost five lengths behind his stable companions. At the five-furlong post, Tack Point got on even terms with Lightspur, and they raced head to head to the final quarter. Then the Marsch representative was able to draw away, completing the eight furlongs with an advantage of about three lengths. Lightspur went the first quarter of his spin in :24, the half-mile in :49, and ;hree-quarters in 1:16, while Tack Points fractional time was :24 for the first quarter, :48 for a half mile, and f :15. for the three-quarters. All three of these horses came out of their trials in good condition.
