BLUE GROTTO raced into the lead in the opening strides, drew clear in the first three-sixteenths and, rated along under slight reserve, was ridden out smartly through the stretch and held NEBRASKA CITY safe to the close. NEBRASKA CITY, avoiding the early pace, moved up steadily during the last five-sixteenths and dosed determinedly under brisk handling. IDOLATRY, restrained for the first half mile, came willingly the remainder of the trip. GLENBROOM tired after chasing the pace for a half mile. BLOOMER GIRL was unable to reach the leaders. STAVKA, under slight reserve while following along in closest pursuit of the dueling leaders for the opening half mile, gained a slight lead after passing the eighth post and, fighting it courageously, had enough left to hold the bid of WHOOPER. The latter, taken back of the pace, went wide while bettering his position and, responding well to hard urging, closed stoutly and just failed to be along in time. RAMROD moved up on the inside through the back stretch after being slow to settle into stride, came to the outside for the closing test and, while wearing down the tiring early leaders, was unable to reach the first two. TIME INTERVAL displayed good speed, met determined early opposition from VIAJERO and tired after straightening out in the stretch. VIAJERO tired in the drive. IDLE SUN was restrained within striking distance of the pace for the first half mile, moved up to supplant. EPITAPH from command and, hard ridden through the last eighth, was never seriously threatened. BRIGHT SOX was slow to begin, moved up steadily during the first three-eighths and came gamely during the closing drive. JACK STING was slow to settle into his best stride and was outpaced until the closing five-sixteenths, then bettered his position on the outside and finished with good energy. EPITAPH, under steadying restraint while making the early pace, tired during the last three-sixteenths. FURFIBER lacked early speed and passed tiring horses in the stretch. HARPEN BELLE was never a factor. BALL-O-FIRE, well placed for the first half mile, was shut off on the stretch turn, then dropped back. Scratched— 72987 Goldman, 118. AFFIRMATION, away fast, was unable to keep pace during the first half mile, moved up fast on the outside when making his bid, gained a slight lead nearing the eighth post and held TERPSICHORE safe to the end. The latter established the early running, met determined early bids from LISTARO and PANORASCOPE while racing slightly restrained and, despite responding willingly to punishment, was not good enough. LISTARO, unruly at the post, was on the outside while forcing the pace and continued with determination to the close. PANORASCOPE raced well placed and was worked out an additional quarter mile. SUN INPLAY" took command under steadying restraint, made a determined effort to go along with the leader when challenged and, despite holding on stubbornly, was not good enough. WISE PRINCE, slightly reserved early, moved up willingly when called upon and held on determinedly to the close. WAR MINSTREL, reserved off the early pace, moved up briefly in the stretch, but was unable to close any ground through the last sixteenth. MYTHICAL KING, pinched back at the start, was moving up willingly in the run through the back stretch when caught in a pocket and had to be taken up. PASSING EVE, hard hustled early to hold a forward position, dropped back steadily, although finishing in a bold fashion during the stretch run. TRAICIONERO, a trailer for the first three-quarters, closed with a belated rush. SIR REG closed some ground. I STEPACOLA was moving up on the inside nearing the far turn when she was knocked back badly, hef 1 rider bided his time on the inside and drove through on the inside entering the stretch, steadily wore down the leaders and drew out, in the last eighth. LADY HAV was well placed throughout and held on with good energy to the close. DIANAPAT, rated in close pursuit of the pace until the last three-eighths, moved to the front when BRIGHT SPOT began tiring and, despite being placed under vigorous pressure, was unable to maintain her advantage. PACK SADDLE moved up steadily in the run through the back stretch, but was unable to keep pace with the leaders during the last quarter mile. HEAVY MIST was unable to reach the leaders. HAPPY PICNIC was never prominent. ELLEN H. tired. JERDAN was prominent from the start, disposed of HALLIES PLAY in the run through the back stretch, met determined opposition from MYRON and, surrendering the lead briefly to SILENT SHOT in the stretch, responded gamely and outlasted the latter at the close. SILENT SHOT moved up stoutly on the outside leaving the back stretch, continued to race wide and, gaining a brief lead in between calls, was unable to maintain his advantage under punishment. MYRON, forwardly placed the entire trip, saved ground all the way and only tired during the closing eighth. SUN FIGHTER, reserved until the last three-eighths, moved up stoutly when called upon, although unable to close any ground through the stretch... HALLIES PLAY, under occasional pressure to hold a forward position, tired after going five-eighths. ALPENGLOW tired. Scratched— 731023Skipped, 106; 72136 Saxopal, 113.
