j « MRS. FAVATO TRIES SUICIDE PHILADELPHIA, Pa., April 29.— Her composure shattering in a burst of hysteria, Mrs. Carina Favato, self-confessed poison-slayer of three victims of Philadelphias macabre insurance murder ring, today reportedly made two unsuccessful attempts to end her life. Babbling incoherently, the 44-year-old believer in witchcraft eluded an almost constant watch over her cell on the sixth floor of city hall and tried to strangle herself with a handkerchief, it was learned. Then, after a guard snatched the handkerchief from her, the woman reputedly scratched her wrist with a pin, apparently intent on opening an artery. Again a guard thwarted her. Court permission to exhume the bodies of three more of the rings suspected 100 or more victims was obtained by police authorities.
