clem McCarthy to broadcast preakness PIMLICO, Md, April 29.— Clem McCarthy will be at the mike for the National Broadcasting Company at Pimlico on Preakness Day. The veteran announcer regards the Old Hilltop course as home, for some of his greatest race broadcasts have been from there. In fact, he seems to have a monopoly on all network programs from there. He contends that the toughest he ever had at a race track was getting from the paddock to the radio booth on the day of the War Admiral-Seabiscuit match race. Fact is, he never got there and broadcast the race standing atop the narrow iron railing of the winners circle.
