ARLINGTON STAKES Eight Features Scheduled, With an Estimated Gross of 85,000. Five Headliners Closing for Entries on June 1 — Classic Stakes to Be Run on July 22. Eight stakes, with a gross value estimated at 85,000 and added money of 6,000, will be the features of a brilliant Arlington Park meeting of thirty days, opening here on June 26, it was announced by Otto W. Lehmann, president of the Arlington Park Jockey Club, today. In announcing the conditions for the Arlington stakes, Lehmann set the closing date for nominations for five of them as Thursday, June 1. Three of the eight stakes — the Arlington Futurity, the Lassie Stakes and Classic Stakes — closed earlier. The progression of stake features will roll up in crescendo of importance from opening day to the final week of the meeting, when the 5,000 gross Classic Stakes, premier American mid-summer race for three-year-olds on July 22; the 0,000 gross Arlington Futurity, for two-year-olds, and the ,500 gross Arlington Handicap, for older horses, on July 29, will strike the climax. STARS NAMED. Highlighting the swank north side meeting will be the eleventh renewal of the Classic Stakes on July 22. The list of seventy-seven nominations holds the names of virtually every ranking three-year-old in America, including Technician, Challedon, Johnstown, Porters Mite, Eight Thirty, Benefactor, Ciencia, Inscoelda, Impound, Day Off and Sun Lover. Tuesday, July 4— 0,000 added Stars and Stripes Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at one and one-eighth miles.
