25,000 AT PAWTUCKET Be Jabbers Surprises by Winning ,000 Added Portsmouth Cap. Coward Racer Loses Lead in Stretch, but Regains Command in Time to Get the Verdict. PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 29— R. A. Cowards Be Jabbers, one of the extreme outsiders in a field of seven, lost the lead and regained it again to win the mile and a sixteenth Portsmouth Handicap, ,000 added feature of another cold afternoon of sport at Narragansett Park. At the end of the journey, Jimmy Bowen Had the winner a length clear of K. A. Veits Sun Inplay. Felix Spa-tolas Wise Prince -was a neck back of the runner-up and just a nose in front of War Minstrel. Mythical King and War Minstrel were both shut off during the back stretch run in the race. Sun Inplay set the early pace over Be Jabbers. The latter showed in front briefly as they went down the back stretch, then dropped back to third place, Sun Inplay showing the way around the turn for home. Be Jabbers came through next to the rail as they entered the stretch, assumed command, and won inching away from his field. Sun Inplay could not match the winners speed down the stretch, but held on well for the place award as Wise Prince and War Minstrel charged at him in the final sixteenth. Repeated trouble cost Mythical King whatever chance he might have held. BE JABBERS EARNS ,230. The winner earned ,230 and paid a straight mutuel of 2.80. He went over the distance in 1:45%. The track was fast, but remained very deep. A crowd of 25,000 came out in spite of the extreme cold and the betting was heavy all afternoon. The success of the Weston Adams Stable and jockey Eddie Robart continued at Narragansett Park as Blue Grotto won the opening event. The daughter of Nassak took the lead a few strides from the start and held on well in the final drive to beat the fast-charging, driving Nebraska City, from the J. Stillman barn, by three-quarters of a length. Mrs. Floyd Wests Idolatry was another half-length back in third place and Glenbroom landed fourth. CHILEAN-BRED WINNER. Celestino, a Chilean-bred, proved best of the §2,000 distance platers which met in the sixth race, another test at one mile and a sixteenth. After putting away The Runner, Celestino opened up daylight on his closest attendant. It seemed as if he would have things pretty much his own way when Ber-tillon moved up nearing the stretch. Celestino was under a drive to meet this bid, and it was not until the closing sixteenth that Bertillons challenge was disposed of. Passing Eve, while unable to reach the leading pair, was a half-length before Traicionero for the show.
