More than §150,000 has been spent in refurbishing the big plant on Chicagos Northwest side. . . . The huge grandstand, still the largest of any in this country, has been repainted. . . . The promising young starter accepted the latter, so lost his New Orleans connection. . . . His work at the sprightly little West Virginia course should lead to other engagements. . . . Speed chart experts discounted Johnstowns record-breaking performance last week. ... According to their intricate mathematical tables, etc., the Jamaica course was fully a second faster to the mile than usually. ... The excellent time made in the other events that day even by ordinary platers is taken as proof. ... As long as his infirm legs hold out, Sandy Bill does all right for himself and Hirsch Jacobs. . . . He won six starts last spring at Jamaica and Belmont Park until going lame again and being forced into inactivity for the remainder of the season. . . . Now at nine years of age, the gelded son of Wise Counsellor — Sweet Mary, by Dick Welles, has been out three times and greeted the judges on each occasion. . . . Jacobs varies the veterans claiming price from ,400 on up, but other halter-men are afraid to take him. ...
