INVESTIGATING JEWEL ROBBERY NEW YORK, N. Y., May 12.— Detectives in New York are investigating the story of Charles Steinlauf, a German refugee now in the jewelry business, that he was robbed of 5,000 in uncut diamonds and other stones ■which he had in a wallet in an inside coat pocket while on a crowded subway platform during a rush hour.
