EXPECT INCREASE IN ENTRIES Outlook Promising for Larger Number of Nominations for Arlington Futurity and Lassie Stakes. Middle West racings most important stakes for two-year-olds — the Arlington Futurity and the Lassie Stakes — promise notable increases in nominations over previous years with the payment of the third fees on May 15, said Major Louis A. Beard, director of racing at Arlington Park. The Futurity, which carries added money of 0,000 and likely will gross 5,000 when run on July 29, had a list of 246 juvenile colts, geldings and fillies still remaining after the second payments on January 15, as compared with second payments of 199 in last years renewal. In the Lassie, which is exclusively for two-year-old fillies, the second payments on January 15 saw 185 remaining on the list as compared with 177 last year. The Lassie, which carries added money of 0,000, is expected to gross 5,000 this year and will be run on July 15. Besides the purse value of the Futurity, beautiful solid gold replicas of the historic English Coronation Cup will be given to the winning owner and breeder. The gold trophy to be presented to the breeder has been named the "Admiral Cary T. Grayson Cup," in honor of the memory of the late sportsman and breeder. The Futurity and the Lassie are the major tests for two-year-olds in the program of eight stakes that feature the thirty-day meeting opening at Chicagos swank North Side racing grounds on June 26. During that period upwards of 25,000 will be distributed in prize money to horsemen. I Entries already are pouring in for the five Arlington Park stakes which close on June 1. They are the 0,000 added Stars and Stripes Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a furlong; the ,000 added Arlington Matron Handicap, for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and upward, at a mile; the ,000 Arlington Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a quarter; the ,500 Arlington Inaugural Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward, at seven furlongs, and the ,500 added Hyde Park Stakes, for two-year-olds, at five and a half furlongs.
