Finds Winning Circle in Christie Handicap, Fridays Main Event at Aqueduct — Mary Schulz and One Jest Second and Third. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 16.— After four consecutive seconds, Martin Van Beurens Pixey Dell, four-year-old chestnut daughter of Pilate— Glen Sprite, found the winners circle in the Chrisitis Handicap, a Class C affair for fillies and mares three years old and upward, which topped todays program at Aqueduct. In winning, the Pilate filly turned the tables on W. C. Winfreys One Jest, which gave- her a head beating in their most recent encounter. The Chrisitis, presented as the fourth race of the day, was at one mile, an affair named for a high-class filly of some years back. This handicap brought postward only five horses, with Pixey Dell the favorite at 7 to 5 and One Jest the second choice at 5 to 2. For the race, Pixey Dell picked up three pounds over her last previous impost, and One Jest five. WELL-BACKED. There was plenty of money for A. H. Watermans Mary Schulz, piloted by Basil James. While this daughter of Crack Brig-ade — Mary On turned in a fine performance, she couldnt hold a candle to the winner and was beaten a length and one-half. One Jest ran third, another length back, and Torch- light was fourth. Matterhorn was fifth and last. After a two-minute post delay the small field was on its way from a start that was good for all excepting Matterhorn. This three-year-old chestnut daughter of Diavolo — Helvetia may have" been unprepared for the break or she may have dwelt. At any rate, her four rivals were well on their way before she decided to take out after them. Mike Corona utilized Torchlights early speed to get her to the front almost immedi-1 ately. The daughter of Traumer was pur-: sued closely- for a half mile by Mary Schulz, but in the third quarter she opened up a bit, increasing her lead from one-half to a full length. Joe Wagner, who had scored in the third with Repercussion, a 20-to-l shot, was content to rate Pixey Dell along in third place. Not until he was well around the turn did Wagner ask the daughter of Pilate to speed up. GOES WIDE. Rounding the turn into the stretch Torchlight and Mary Schulz went somewhat wide, but Wagner, evidently anticipating just such a move, drove through with Pixey Dell hard on the rail. This bit of strategy enabled the destined winner to save a heap of ground. From the head of the stretch to the finish line Torchlight tired badly. Pixey Dell, on the other hand, seemed to gather speed as she neared her objective. Wagner took no chances and at the sixteenth post used the whip on the Van Beuren representative. Mary Schulz also was put to plenty of punishment, but she had little difficulty gain-ir ing the place award. One Jest, which ran fourth to the head of the home lane, closed with good speed but was unable to make any appreciable gain on the two in front of her. Torchlight was a thoroughly tired fourth. The time of the race was :23, :46%, 1:12, 1:37%.
