June 21.— Harry ry Gonder, 25-year-old professional, gave up ip early today after failing in almost seven- ri- 1 teen hours of continuous effort to score a a holc-in-one. His hands blistered and sore, e, his back weary and his arms leaden, Gonder er stopped firing after his 1,817th drive failed ;d to settle in the cup on the 136-yard tenth th hole of the Beverly Shores Country Club lb course. Gonder began his marathon at 10 10 a. m. yesterday to win a 5 friendly wager er from William Voltz, "duffer" golfer, who io scored an ace on the tenth hole some weeks ks ago. The young pro had tried to -prove that at "if a 100 shooter can make a hole-in-one, anybody can."
