First Mentioned, Triumphant by a Nose, Aided by Superb Ride on Part of Joe Renick. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 21.— In as close and as thrilling a finish as is possible in a horse race, Mrs. C. Oliver Iselins Strabo, , five-year-old bay son of Pompey and Blood Royal, nosed out J. D. Norris Sandy Boot I in the Kinley Mack Handicap, a class "C" affair that topped todays program at Aque-l • duct. Contributing no little to Strabos hard I earned triumph was a corking good ride by the veteran Joe Renick. To within fifty yards of the wire, J. B. Partridges Our Ketcham, four-year-old son i of Spanish Play and Bunt, appeared to have s first money "sewed up." But this horse, , which had made all the pace under a hus-F tling ride by Wayne Wright, lacked energy for the final drive, and succumbed to the ! magnificent rushes of Strabo and Sandy Boot. White Hot finished fourth. Some 7,000 to 8,000 visitors were in the ■ Queens County Jockey Clubs plant for the ■ mid-week program, and enjoyed perfect rac-t ■ ing weather as well as high grade racing. ■ The talent got off on the right foot by put-i ting over two favorites in the first two races, but in the third, Sammy Renick drove Jims i Niece, a 10 to 1 shot, to victory, and then, , in the feature, his brother, Joe, whipped the favored Sandy Boot with Strabo. Our Ketcham and Strabo are eligible for the renewal on Saturday of the 0,000 • Brooklyn Handicap, but even after their f good efforts in the Kinley Mack Handicap, • they are regarded as doubtful starters. In winning today, Strabo avenged a defeat ■ suffered at Belmont Park on May 30, . in a race won by Sandy Boot. For the Kinley Mack, Sandy Boot picked up six . and one-half pounds off the Belmont Park race in question, while Strabo picked up six pounds. Perhaps the added sixteenth of p todays affair favored the fast-closing Strabo | more than it favored Sandy Boot. At any [ rate the tables were turned, much to the ! delight of the Strabo supporters. Jockeys Eddie Arcaro and W. D. Wright will go to Delaware Park on Saturday to J ride Hash and Third Degree in the Kent Stakes.
