PETER TOKALON, taken in hand when outrun during the first half mile, improved his position rapidly in the last three-eighths, responded to brisk urging in the final three-sixteenths and outstayed GRAND CHILD. The latter improved his position steadily on the outside, challenged OURS approaching the final quarter and momentarily got to the front, but was unable to ward off the winner. SNUG saved ground while improving her position and finished gamely under urging. OURS was much used in forcing the pace and tired after three-quarters. AZAFRAN tired. ABSCONDER, away well, disposed-of BLUE STAR after going a quarter, moved into-a safe lead and, setting the pace under steadying restraint to the final quarter, was. shaken up and increased his advantage rapidly. BLUE STAR, a sharp factor from the start and saving ground throughout, held on with good courage when placed to pressure. MR. AMBASSADOR, fractious at the gate and slow to settle into his best stride, got through on the inside approaching the final quarter and made a bold bid, but was not good enough. TAKEN, under snug restraint for a half mile, improved his position steadily when roused, bore out on the stretch turn and tired in the drive. TEMULAC was never a factor. VONIADALE, well up from the start and taken under snug restraint, went wide on the stretch turn and, responding to strenuous urging in the last throe-sixteenths, wore down HOLLYWOOD ACE. The latter, lucky to get through on the inside when working his way up, got to the front in the last sixteenth, but could not withstand the winner. CLIVE, hard hustled from the start, took the lead after a quarter, saved ground while setting the pace, but tired when placed to pressure. WITFUL, badly outrun for three-quarters, closed a big gap. QUEENS BEST, alertly ridden, was rated close to the pace for a half mile, took command with a rush approaching the far turn and, continuing in a courageous manner, held BUZZIN AROUND safe. The latter worked his way up on the outside under light restraint and responded to brisk urging in the last quarter. TUCCIA, on the inside throughout, made up some ground in the final quarter. ESCOMUR moved up with a rush rounding the turn on the inside, was blocked and forced back, then failed to recover. AUDREY L. was much used setting the early pace and gave way.
