Expect at Least Eleven For Governors Handicap Flag Drill and Mesmer to Share Top Weight Assignment of 116 SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 5. — The line-up for the ,500 Governors Handicap at one mile, which will feature Saturdays program at Suffolk Downs, is beginning to take shape. The last count by the local racing secretarys office lists a field of at least 11 starters, regardless of track conditions, which will face starter Bob Frend. Clarence Hartwicks Flag Drill, who was second in the Governors last year, is likely to share the starting high weight of 116 pounds with Honeywell Farms Mesmer. That pair was assigned two pounds less than J. L. McKnights Agrarian-U. In the weights released Tuesday by racing secretary John P. Turner, Sr., Agrarian-U is not expected to start. Flag Drill and Mesmer scored impressive victories against lesser opposition in their only local appearances this year and, under the conditions of the Governors Handicap, either is capable of carrying the impost assigned. Slated to oppose the above pair are Mar-let Stables Column and Sandy Strand Stables Manna H., bracketed at 115 pounds; Graham and Byrums Fancy Flyer and Fantasy Farms Grand Entry, each carrying 109 pounds; Mrs. Rea E. Warners Makeup Man, at 108 pounds; D. A. Rosenbaums American Glory, 107, and his stablemate, Reborn, 105, and Reynolds Brothers Mr. Chairman, who has been assigned 106 pounds. It is likely that trainer George Alexandra will name Honeywell Farms Dole, 111 pounds, as an entry with Mesmer, but the astute conditioner plans to put his main hope in the strawberry roan. By entry time tomorrow, a few less regarded candidates will probably be named overnight in the mile test. Tomorrows card will be featured with a ,500 sprint at six furlongs, named the Excelsior, and 13 have been made eligible. Heading the list for the Excelsior is My-harriet Stables Marine Band, who turned in a creditable effort in the Paul Revere Handicap last Saturday. Murlogg Stables Gee Whiz, an also-ran in the Paul Revere, figures to improve off that effort and may cause Marine Band no end of trouble before the finish of tomorrows test. Many New England favorites of previous seasons will be making their seasonal debut before local patrons in tomorrows feature. Among this group, Mt. Desert Stables Tim B. is certain to gain his share of recognition since he was successful in the Marquette Hotel Purse at Oaklawn Park. Lookout Studs Lookout Son, an eligible for the Excelsior, finished back of Tim B. in that race, as did Gunnison, an easy winner here yesterday. Once again Suffolk Downs will attempt to introduce turf racing to the local public. A mile and one-sixteenth affair has been carded for the turf course
