COTTON JOE, unhurried when outrun to the far turn, came out for the drive and drew clear when ridden out. TIDY SUM was much used engaging for the early lead and had little left at the finish. IRISH SUN reached the lead approaching the furlong marker, but lacked a menacing rally. LADY JOAN moved up boldly on the outside entering the stretch, then tired under punishment. PORTERS BROOM, permitted to swerve repeatedly, could not improve his position when set down for the final test. SYNDICATE was far back throughout. WALKIE TALKIE was never a threat. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. BOLD KING, prominent from the beginning, came over slightly on BREAKAGE during the stretch run, then continued on gamely to prevail over the latter. A claim of foul against the winner by the rider of BREAKAGE was disallowed by the stewards. BREAKAGE outsprinted the field into the first turn, held sway thereafter until approaching the furlong marker, was in close quarters throughout the final furlong and, under pressure, could not reach the winner. FLOATING CLOWN could not seriously threaten the leaders when hard ridden through the stretch. ROMAN HOLIDAY flattened out during the late stages. SHUT EYE lacked speed as usual. WEE MISTRESS failed to stay after possessing brief speed. EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. Lady Madcap, May 24, 1922—1:44—4—113. Purse ,000. 4-year- C ♦ r olds and upward. Claiming. Weight, 120 lbs.
