NEWTOWN was kept close to the pace from the beginning, assumed command when straightened out on the backstretch, responded when roused in the final furlong and held on well. CAPE HATTERAS worked her way up steadily, came to the outside for the stretch run and finished well. OCEAN PLAY, a forward factor all the way, had no mishap. ROCKWOOD ARGO faltered when placed to pressure in the stretch run. THIRD SPIN had no mishap. WARY FLIGHT raced evenly. ROY JAY saved ground. DORADA had no excuse. GINO GOLD was outrun. V. P. I. CLEF RAN AWAY BEFORE THE START AND WAS ORDERED SCRATCHED AND ALL WAGERS REFUNDED. Scratched— 72674 Majalis, 119; 72465 V. P. I. Clef, 115; 73019 Pharack, 114.
