Grantland Rice at Louisville CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., ■ May 5. — Grantland Rice, dean of American sports writers, arrived from New York and took his familiar post in the Downs press box. Fellow members of the fourth estate gave Rice a rousing welcome for the vet- eran scribe was unable to attend the Derby last year, due to ill health. Back in excellent physical trim, Rice will give his usual splendid coverage to the Kentucky three-year-old classic.
