BROWN CLIPPER made the pace to the stretch under steady rating and held her advantage to the end under brisk handling. COLONEL READ worked his way forward between horses and closed with a rush in a sharp effort. NEAT AND TIDY moved up boldly fcr the stretch run, then flattened out under punishment. OURBERRA failed to make up appreciable ground when hard ridden through the final furlong. SIDNEY SUE had no mishap. DIAVOLAW was outrun. MY WAR DOG failed to stay after racing prominently for a half. DISTANT LIGHT was never dangerous. JUNE AYR failed to gain the lead and quit. PATSY JO, never far back, came out to the middle of the track for the drive and, after assuming command, drew clear under punishment. WESTERN FRONT went to the front immediately after the break, held a clear margin entering the stretch, but weakened during the late stages and could not hold the winner. TOLECA steadily improved her position, but lacked a menacing closing rally. POLITICS raced evenly through the stretch without mishap. JEAN BUTTONS was shuffled back on the far turn. SWEET COMET tired under pressure. BENEELOBE lacked speed. LAIRDS CAT cculd not keep up. PARICO was done early. MASTER INSCO hesitated at the break and raced wide throughout. TEAPOY was reserved back of the early pace, responded gamely when sent to the middle of the track for the stretch run and was drawing away at the finish. TOBO was outrun to the stretch, but closed determinedly under stern handling. POLLY K. cutsprinted the field around the first turn, held sway until nearing the eighth marker, then faltered. CHALL REWARD caught tiring horses. ROMARY ANN finished willingly to earn a dead-heat with LEADING MAN. The latter was fcrwardly placed early, weakened during the drive, but lasted to finish on even terms with ROMARY ANN. VERAGEL began sluggishly. BETROUM quit while racing on the outside. UP GRADE, unhurried when outrun to the stretch, took command while on the outside midway of the drive and drew clear under urging. BOLD LADY held sway to the stretch while permitted to race on her own courage, but tired badly during the final furlong. WAR RULER raced in closest pursuit of the early pace, but could not keep up. TEDDY REIGH failed to respond when called upon for his best effort. DARK FILANTE began tardily, losing all chance. SENECAS MISS was overmatched. Overweight— Dark Filante, 1J pounds; Senecas Miss, 1. MARTIN WHELAN gained the lead immediately and, under stern handling, maintained his advantage to the finish. BONNYVALE was hustled into 3 close contention early, was forced to take up when impeded by BETETHEL near the three-furlong marker, drifted 2 out on the upper turn, then closed with good courage when settled for the stretch run. PEACEFUL GENIE C came between horses during the drive, but was not good enough. WINTAG moved up boldly on the turn, then tired under pressure. BETETHEL came over on BONNYVALE on the far turn while a forward factor, but failed ~ to recover thereafter and could net menace the top ones. HOOT MON had his usual speed, then quit. ARILESS fell back steadily from a rapid beginning. JUST FOR LUCK and MISS QUINLAN were never dangerous. 2 Scratched— 72368 Top Tiger, 113. SHY GUY raced nearest ARMED until reaching the upper turn, went to the front when roused, then continued gamely under brisk handling and held FREE AMERICA safe. The latter, taken back and sent to the inside before going a quarter, moved up on the outside of SHY GUY for the drive and, closing strongly, was unable to overtake the winner. ARMED went into command at once, made the pace for five-eighths, then faltered when challenged by SHY GUY. DINNER HOUR could not keep up after showing brief speed.
