New England Notes SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 5. Apprentice Vito Terranova, following a successful season at New Orleans, is ready to provide a strong battle for riding honors on his home town track here. Terranova will ride with the "bug" for almost the entire New England season. Tom Shehan, Rockingham Park steward, has departed from his home in Danvers, Mass., to take in the Diamond Jubilee running of the Kentucky Derby this Saturday. Shehan was accompanied by his father and plans on stopping at the breeding farms in Lexington, en route back to his home. He expects to arrive here about May 11. D. F. Harrington, of Worcester, Mass., has stabled Weathercock, Chance Player, Mixer, Claire Dauber, Gila Water, Tight Grip and Copywright at Suffolk Downs for the spring meeting. Sam McCrensky has been named trainer, succeeding Bill Hosea. Audley Farm, of Berryville, Va., shipped in from Havre de Grace with 16 head which P. G. Simms will handle for the breeding farm that has been in business for 50 years. Cecil Fielding, former conditioner for W. H. Grissoms Murray Hill Farm, plans to assemble a public stable for racing on the New England circuit. Fielding assisted Dr. Harold M. Lewis during the 1947 swamp fever plague that hit New England. Another first at New England tracks was established with the opening when mechanical shoe-shining machines were installed throughout the grandstand. Mrs. B. F. Listers colors will be carried , throughout the Suffolk Downs meeting by Evening Rose, Boxie, Momos Boy, Trical, Tigh Fit and Sary Jane.
