ORIENT, slow to begin, was hard held to the final half mile, where he found racing room on the inside and was best in a hard drive. MOSSY FACE responded to urging after a half mile to take command from the outside rounding the turn, drew out under mild urging and, under increased pressure through the stretch, just failed to last. HICKORY LEA improved his position steadily from the outside rounding the stretch turn and, while closing gamely in the late stages, was not good enough. POLEMIC, away very slowly, was outrun to the last half mile, where he made up some ground while racing between horses. FLASHY GAL had no apparent mishap. RAGS TO RICHES quit to a walk after showing good speed the first "half mile. GREAT SPIRIT* slow to settle into his best stride, was roused in the last quarter and, while finding racing room between horses, closed with a belated rush to outfinish OUR JOHN WM. The latter pressed the pace in hand to the stretch, where he wore down CACIQUE from the outside to take the lead and, under a strong ride through the last eighth, just failed to last HYBLAZE was well placed from the start, raced between horses much of the way and, while unable to menace the top pair, held on stubbornly to finish on even terms with TOP PILOT. The latter raced very wide throughout and made a mild rally in the late stages to dead-heat for third with HYBLAZE. BRANDY PUNCH was cleverly rated while saving ground to the last quarter, moved up strongly under pressure nearing the last eighth and weakened. DEGAGE was outrun in a dull performance. LECHE H0MBRE assumed command when ready on the tenth jump, drew out with ease and, while being vigorously shaken up after the final jump, held his advantage. LOCK AND KEY drew into a long lead soon after the break, made a bad jump at the fifth, then bobbled at the seventh, was put to strong handling when challenged by the winner and, while not able to resist him, was still best of the others. FALL GUY was always far back. FONSILVER was badly beaten off. P0LICHINELA II: was through early and came back with a cut on right front ankle. The latter followed in close attendance of the pace, saved ground throughout and, while in close quarters in the late stages, held on stubbornly. SOCIAL HOUR had speed, was between horses much of the way and weakened under punishment in the last eighth. DIAZ had no excuse. CRYSTAL BOOT made a bold bid nearing the last quarter, but had nothing left when the real test came. The others were always outrun. Overweight— Sir Larkspur, 2 pounds. SIXTH RACE 1 MILE. PADDLEDUCK followed the pace in hand to the last quarter, where she was roused and quickly took command from the outside in the early stretch to gradually draw out under continued pressure. ALLIES PAL displaced GAY MOOD nearing the last quarter, but had little left when challenged by the top one. GAY MOOD had speed, saved ground and gave way readily when challenged. REALTOR made the pace under good rating, saved ground much of the way and, under a sustained drive in the last quarter, shook off ROGUE and held his advantage. The latter pressed the pace in hand, raced a trifle wide early, moved up boldly to the leader entering the stretch and hung under pressure in the final furlong. RUSTLE BROOM was well placed from the start and saved ground much of the way, but lacked a closing rally. BLACKMONT raced on the outside throughout and was unable to menace the top ones. APPEASE NOT, hard held to the final half mile, rallied from between horses for the drive to wear down BOMBCASE inside the last eighth while under extreme pressure. BOMBCASE improved his position steadily while racing on the rail rounding the turn, took the lead in the early stretch, but could not-resist the top one. POLLYS BOY, always within striking distance of the leader, raced on the outside throughout and flattened out under punishment in the strech. SIR GALAVAN wrested command nearing the last quarter, but had little left when the real racing began. EVAS TOY passed tiring horses. EASTON AIR was through early.
