► ■ Lookout Dice Flashes Speed To Whip Bayard Purse Rivals * Jimmy Brinks Homebred Is Kept on Top Throughout to Lead Flying Mile to Finish SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 26. — Lookout Dice, six-year-olds Su-premus gelding, proved the best of seven rivals that met in the Bayard Purse, mile and one-sixteenth allowance event that served as the feature on this afternoons program at Suffolk Downs. The Lookout Stud racer was making his first start at the middle distance since last June at Arlington Park and todays victory was his first of the current season. Slightly better than two lengths separated the winner and Cherry Oca Stables Flying Mile, odds-on choice in the Bayard. Another half-length back, Mablum Stables March Chick saved the minor award without much trouble. The usual "off-day" crowd, numbering 10,563, witnessedthe card, which produced two favorites through the first six events. In the third race, Mrs. C. A. Copes H. T. Perry graduated from the maiden juvenile ranks while being installed the choice and Marlet Stable furnished the other favorite when Klimie won the fifth race. In the Bayard, the answer to Lookout Dices triumph was the fast pace set by the winner. Apprentice Gerry Schrek sent his charge to the front under pressure and gained a two-length advantage in the initial quarter mile, which was run in :24 flat. The half mile was negotiated in :48%, with Flying Mile and March Chick well up near the pace. Continues Sizzling Pace On the far turn, the two challengers moved simultaneously at Lookout Dice, but Schrek had something left after they drew within a half length of Lookout Dice turning for home. The ultimate winner pricked his ears and continued his sibling pace to stagger the opposition. Overlooked in the wagering, Lookout Dice returned a tidy 6.60 to the faithful followers that backed him and was timed the mile and one-sixteenth in 1:47 over the fast racing strip. The finish of the fifth race, won by Klimie, resulted in the early stretch leader, W. F. Mannaghs Atom Ride, being disqualified after finishing second before Cherry Oca Stables Peerless. Nearing the sixteenth pole, Atom Ride was enjoying a half-length margin over Peerless, but the latter was driving hard along the inside and had to pull up sharply as Atom Ride bore over and brushed her challenger. Not only did the Hayride filly get set back for her foul, but it probably cost her the victory, had she kept straight in the final stages. Peerless was moved into the runner-up slot by the stewards, who claimed the foul, and Atom Ride was awarded third money.
