Miss Grillo En Route To Santa Anita Park Great Distance-Running Mare Has Been Bred Twice to Alsab SANTA ANITA PARK, Arcadia, Calif., May 26.— Miss Grillo, Mill River Stables great distance race mare, is expected to leave Lexington today for the Hollywood Park meeting at Santa Anita. After her victory in the San Juan Cap-istrano last winter, she was sent to the court of Alsab, who stands on the farm of his owner, Al Sabath, near Lexington. She was first bred to Alsab April 23, and apparently the service wasnt successful. It is believed that she was bred again this week. The great daughter of Rolando — Cedu-lilla, by Picacero, was bred by the Haras San Ignacio in the Argentine. Among her many dazzling American turf triumphs was her victory in the Pimlico Cup last November 12 when she raced to a new world record of 4:14% for two and one-half miles. Miss Grillo did not start at two, but at three she won the Argentine Derby, the Argentine Oaks and four other races. She was brought to this country as a four-year-old and won the Diana and Exterminator, while finishing second in the Pimlico Cup. As a five-year-old she also won the Diana, in addition to the Governor Bowie, Black Helen and Pimlico Cup. She was second in the Beldame, Exterminator and Top Flight handicaps and third in the Gallant Fox. Last year she won the New York, New Castle and Pimlico Cup handicaps, was second in the Diana and Saratoga Cup, and third in the Santa Margarita and Exterminator handicaps. In addition to her victory in the San Juan Capistrano this year, she also finished third in the Santa Anita Handicap. No word has been received as yet as to whether or not Miss Grillo will be accompanied by any other thoroughbreds from Lexington. She will be received here by Horatio Luroj who will prepare her for her engagements at Hollywood Park.
