Along with the Bashford Manor, the Douglas Park Handicap also is set for decision on the half -holiday iy bill and eight shifty thoroughbreds are re named for the secondary offering. The Chicago-owned Mrs. Emil Dene-mark ", stable, trained by the "old school horseman," Bob McGarvey, is to have an in unusually strong hand for major honors rs in the Bashford Manor. The Denemark :k silks are to be carried in the allowance ;e stake by Hudgens, Red Curtice, and Robert, t, about as useful a trio as could be asked [_ for this early in the year. Douglas Dodson will ride Very Special, Darrell Madden was named on Smoke Screen, Earl Knapp is to handle White Brand, and Jerry West may get the mount on Hoop Gano. The members of the Denemark triumvirate are good winners of Kentucky engagements this spring. Hudgens and Red Curtice captured divisions of the Thoroughbred Club Dinner Purse at Keeneland, while Robert made good at the first asking on Derby Day at the Downs, defeatirig a quick field. Robert, a gelded son of Whirl-away and Tacky Sue, was most impressive in his debut, winning off by five lengths, while Hudgens and Red Curtice raced courageously to achieve victories in their divisions of the Keeneland feature. Wellblessed and Brian Boru, the locally-owned Brown Hotel Stable duo, may give the Denemark entry its stiffest tussle. Wellblessed, a speedy colt, the get of Fighting Step and Oswellblessed, stamped himself as a top individual at the New Orleans Fair Grounds the first time he appeared under silks. Breaking tenth in a field of 12, the Brown Hotel youngster drove to a neck graduation decision, stepping a quarter mile in :22%, unusually good time for that distance over the Crescent City strip. Brian Boru, a well made Bernborough colt, won his initial race through the disqualification of Very Special in a three-furlong dash at Gulfstream Park, March 26. Very Special, one of the more dangerous contenders for the Bashford Manor, reached the wire in the Florida event three-quarters of a length before Brian Boru, but he was placed third after fouling during the stretch run. The return engagement tomorrow between Brian Boru and Very Special is causing much interest around the shed-rows of the Brown Hotel barn and the Circle M Stable. Good Field in Douglas Park Handicap The Douglas Park Handicap undoubtedly will prove one of the highlight numbers of the current Downs season. John Marschs Whirling Dough, who established a new mile track record of 1:35% in the Roman Purse inaugural day, gets in with 115 pounds, an impost he is quite capable of handling. Should .the track be fast for the race, the Chicago-owned Marsch speedster may go postward the choice over his seven rivals. Whirling Dough is to meet Hasty House Farms Seaward, the high weight at 122 pounds, and Wine List,* 116; Eugene Constants, Jr.s Prop, 108, C. H. Everitts Little Imp, 109, David Straus and Howard Wells Mr. Smug, 106, Endovina and Kontos Caco-mo, 110, the Almahurst Handicap victor; also William H. Veenemans Black George, 112 pounds. Should the latter gelding, 1950 Derby Trial winner and also successful in two Florida engagements this year, catch a muddy or sloppy strip for the Douglas Park, he will take considerable beating. Along with the principal attractions, racing secretary Fred Burton arranged an excellent supporting bill and, given a break in the* weather, president Bill Corum and resident manager Russell Sweeney, of the Downs, expect to play host to a bumper crowd. Post time for the initial event on the Saturday program will be at the usual hour,
