Delaware Park to Receive Horses Starting on Monday STANTON, Del., May 11.— The calm of Delaware Parks stable area will undergo a sudden transformation Monday when the local track admits horses and horsemen to its grounds. Prom that point until the wind-up of the 32-day meeting, which runs from May 29 through July 4, the rustic scene at the beautiful plant sprawled over 500 acres will be one of bustling activity. Thoroughbreds from all parts of the country will arrive to compete in 14 stakes carrying 35,000 in added money and to vie for an overall purse distribution of approximately ,000,000. The stake program has been increased every racing season since the 1937 opening. Racing secretary-handicapper J. Gilbert Haus reports that stall applications have been received for more than 3,500 horses, far in excess of the number which can be accommodated. Delaware has 1,408 stalls. Track superintendent Clarke M. Pardee and his maintenance crew have been busy since early spring planting new paddock shrubbery, touching up all parts of the plant that needed fresh paint, resurfacing all horse walks in the stable area with sand, laying fresh dirt and making spic and span the stalls, scrubbing from top to bottom the 36 barns and 47 bunkhouses, resurfacing motor vehicle roads where necessary, freshening the grandstand and clubhouse, working on the one-mile racing strip and grooming the five-eighths mile training track adjacent to the stable area and attending to many other chores. On hand Monday will be the first contingent of Delaware Parks policemen and firemen under the supervision of the Thoroughbred Racing Protective Bureau. Soon to be set up are such departments as film patrol, photo finish, American totalizator and tele-timer.
