Oil Capitol, making his first start since last November, probably needed the race and finished third behind his stable-mate, Hasty House Farms Inseparable, and Brown Hotel Stables surprising sophomore, Grass Fire. Just a half length separated the two leaders at the wire while Oil Capitol wound up third, a neck back. Following the placed trio home were Mrs. Leo Wagners Nickey W., the early pacemaker; James C. Ellis Teapoy, and M. F. Lyons Torch Sickle. Inseparable carried equal top weight of 120 pounds with Oil Capitol and streaked the three-quarters of the Reigh Count over the dull footing in a neat 1:11%. The winner, coupled with Oil Capitol, paid .80 straight. Grass Fires Good Effort While nothing should be taken from Inseparable in his well-deserved accounting, Grass Fire turned in one of the best performances of his career, giving the victor plenty of competition right down to the wire. Jockey Kenneth Church, astride Oil Capitol, did not abuse the Mahmoud colt during the closing sixteenth, when he saw that his running-mate had Grass Fire j. beaten. Nickey W., who fashioned a brisk pace until inside the stretch, wound up a f faltering fourth in the "off day" feature. Cloudy and cold weather held attendance £ down to 5,000 regulars but the gathering braving the chill temperatures was treated to some formful and interesting sport. The t track was termed slow for the entire matinee * although it did improve a bit during the dreary afternoon. James Paddocks locally-owned Alphara, T raced to a popular five and one-half j lengths decision in the six and one-half f furlongs fourth race, defeating five other t useful platers. Smartly ridden by Kenny Church, Alphara sped by Reverie Knoll j Farms Mahplay approaching the stretch 2 and then drew clear, winning with something j. left. Trixie, a member of the Mrs. j Jacob Lowenstein stable, finished second, a r neck in advance of Baylor O. Hickmans j Dr. Cricket. Alphara, a visitor to the winners ring during the Keeneland meeting, was clocked j in 1:19% and he was the 1 to 2 favorite in the wagering.
