Four Illinois Horses Still in Hambletonian Mighty Fine# Bright Comet, Pearl Comet, Spennib in 0,000 Race Four Illinois-owned horses, including Mighty Fine, one of the top winter choices, are still eligible to the 0,000 Hambletonian Stake which will be raced at Good Time Park, Goshen, N. Y., on August 8. The 1951 edition of the three-year-old trotting classic will be the richest event in harness racing history. Mighty Fine is the equine tool with which the Hayes Fair Acres Stable of Du Quoin will be seeking to register two in a row in the greatest of all harness races. W. R. Hayes and his son, Gene, scored in the 1950 version with the colt Lusty Song. Mighty Fine started 31 times in 1950 and was 25 times in the money. He won 14 starts, was nine times second and twice third. In addition, the colt earned 2,838 to become the biggest money -winning two-year-old of all time. Among his stake victories were the 1,-000 Horseman, the 3,000 Greyhound, the 0,000 Ohio Standardbred and the 0,000 Bostwick. A second Hayes entry in the classic is Spennib, a good trotter but one who was overshadowed by his stablemate. Spennib started eight times in 1950, won two and was second twice. His record of 2:16% cannot compare, however, with the 2:04% mile turned in by Mighty Fine. The other two Illinois eligibles are Bright Comet, owned by the Reed Yates Farm of Normal and Pearl Comet, the property of E. J. Baker, St. Charles. Bright Comet took the track in 28 1950 races and was in the money 12 times, including three firsts. He won ,400 and took a record of 2:10%. Pearl Comet started 11 times, won twice and took a mark of 2:10% also.
