Apprehend 15-Year-Old In Extortion Attempt FBI Seizes Boy Trying to Extort 0,000 From A. G. Vanderbilt NEW YORK, N. Y., May 11.— A 15 -year-old boy was apprehended by FBI agents last night at Belmont Park on charges of j attempting to extort 0,000 from A. G. Vanderbilt. The boy, whose name was withheld, demanded the money from Van-derbilt in a letter postmarked May 3. FBI special agent Edward E. Scheidt said the note read in part: "I want 0,000. If you tell anyone, I will kill you and whoever you tell. And if you dont, I will kill you." A postscript said: "This is no joke." The letter directed Vanderbilt to bring the money at 8 p. m., Thursday, to gate 6 at Belmont Park. Vanderbilt turned the missive, written in a childish scrawl, over to the FBI. Agents, concealed, watched the gate, and pounced on the youth when he emerged from some bushes at the desig- nated hour. In his pocket was a toy pistol. 1 The youth was clad in blue jeans. The FBI quoted the boy as saying he got the idea of extorting money from Vander-bilt when he saw the sportsmans picture 1 in a racing magazine two weeks ago. Ac- 1 cording to the FBI, the youngster admitted ! writing the note and said, "I just wanted I the money. I dont know what I was going ; to do with it." U. S. Attorney Frank Parker in Brooklyn turned the boy over to his parents after ] he was seized, further disposition of the I case to be made later. The youngster lives 1 at Elmont, L.
