■ ; Arcaro Will Ride Bold In Preakness Renewal Repetoire and Alerted Work Out For May 19 Feature at Pimlico BALTIMORE, Md., May 11. — At least i one fact has been cleared up concerning the diamond jubilee running of the 5,000 added Preakness on Saturday, May 19. . Jockey Eddie Arcaro, who already has won « previous runnings of the Maryland Jockey i Clubs mile and three - sixteenths classic J with Whirlaway, Citation and Hill Prince, J will be atop Brookmeade Stables Bold t in quest of his fourth success in the "Triple Crown" fixture. Arcaro will not, however, be able to ride the By Jimminy colt in Mondays mile and a sixteenth Preakness J Prep, having been engaged previously to ] ride Mrs. L. Lazares Sheilas Reward in the 0,000 Toboggan Handicap as Belmont ! Park launches its 1951 season. Two eligibles for the Maryland classic — j Mrs. Nora A. Mikells Repetoire and Hamp-ton Stables Alerted — were on the "good" 1 training track this morning for slow ! breezes over the six - furlong distance. ] Repetoire, who was on the front end after the first mile of the Kentucky Derby, was ] the more impressive, being timed in 1:17 J after getting the opening quarter in :25 and the half-mile in :51%. Trainer Al- * fred Jensen stated that the Happy Argo ! colt would pass up Mondays prep to await * the more exacting Preakness. £ Alerted, on the other hand, is a sched- J uled starter in the Prep, where he is ex- J * pected to meet Brookmeades Bold, Sam A. Mason, II. s, To Market, and possibly J King Ranchs Sonic. A Calumet-bred son * of Bull Lea and Hastily Yours, Alerted ac- . complished his initial stakes success in ■ the Laurel Stakes this spring, following c which he was shipped to New York for the J Wood Memorial and had a rough trip in ■ that engagement. Over the good track this J morning, he was timed in 1:19%. His rider in the Preakness, as well as in the Prep, has not been selected. l Ted Atkinson, who is scheduled to ride Greentrees Hall of Fame, and Dough Dod- i son, who will be astride Big Stretch, the other portion of trainer John Gavers entry, will be seeking doubles in the Preakness. Dodson scored with Calumets Faultless in the 1947 running, downing On * Trust and Phalanx, while "Atky Boy" won s the 1949 running with Greentrees Capot, t who drove to victory over Palestinian, be- c longing to Isidor Bieber. c I JAMAICA, L. I., N. Y., May 11.— Eddie c Arcaro confirmed reports that he had de- t cided to ride Brookmeade Stables Bold in s the Preakness, saying, "I have contracted to ride the colt." Until Cain Hoy Stables * Battle Morn, the beaten Derby favorite, was declared from the race, Arcaro was to have ridden that son of Blenheim II. Yesterday, the veteran had been undecided between ? Bold and King Ranchs Sonic, who also dis- appointed in the Derby. J
