Red McKlyo and Mr. Dale Make 1951 Bows Tonight Ranking Pacers Face Four Other Sidewheelers in Aurora Feature AURORA DOWNS, Aurora, HI., May 11. — Red McKlyo and Mr. Dale, two of the five top pacers in the Midwest, will clash against four other crack sidewheelers in a ,500 free-for-all pace at Aurora Downs Saturday night. The two-heat feature, going over the six and one-half furlongs and one mile routes, also will mark the 1951 debut for Red McKlyo and Mr. Dale. The ranking pacers will face True Neil, Chief Mite, Canada Direct and Hand Book. Mr. Dale, trained and driven by Glen Campbell, finished off at Toledo last fall and wound up with a record of four wins, nine seconds and six thirds in 38 starts. The seven-year-old Pegasus Pointer bay horse, owned by Ralph Stout, Muncie. Ind., earned 0,437 for his owner in 1950. Mr. Dale holds a record of 2:04% over a half-mile track. Red McKlyo, owned by Sherry Bros., Connersville, Ind., and driven by Harry Burright. closed out his 1950 campaign by finishing third to Bay Prince and Grattan Truax in 2:06%. However, a week prior to this race, Red McKlyo whipped Bay Prince and Chief Mite in 2:05%. The eight-year-old Silent Grattan, chestnut gelding, holds a half-mile mark of 2:04%. Chief Mite, Roy Riegles promising four-year-old Chief Abbedale black mare, was a little short in his only start at Aurora this meeting. But railbirds report the speedster working well and ready to prove her ability to race against the best in the business. True Neil, winner of the Inaugural Pace at the Downs, has a best time of 2:05% over a half-mile oval. Canada Direct has the slowest mark of the six -horse field, 2:07%, while Hand Book holds the best with a mark of 2:03%. Chief Mites mark of 2:02% was recorded over a mile track. Gene Autry, Tommy Mills dash-hound, will have an opportunity to display his terrific speed in a nine-sixteenths event Saturday night. The aging Gene Van Direct bay horse will have his wind tested against James Elworthy, Mer Mc, Marj L. Marks, Jewel Tramp Frisco, Supremus and Dick Siskiyou in the fifth race of the nine-race program formulated by race secretary Ted Leonard. A pair of Illinois-owned or bred races also have been carded. Seven trotters will go postward in the third and as many pacers are set to start in the fourth.
