Christiana Lures Thirteen Juveniles . ,* — n* ._■%#•_ n* ._■%#•_ The Pimpernel Vies With Pintor Today Former Set Worlds Record At Belmont, While Opponent Lowered Pimlico Track Mark By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May 29. — Delaware Steeplechase and Race Association officials anticipate another banner holiday turnout tomorrow afternoon, at which time they will offer a stellar Memorial Day program featuring the fourteenth running of the 0,000 added Christiana Stakes, a five-furlong dash for two-year-old colts and geldings. Highlight of this juvenile dash will be the meeting of William Goadby Loews The Pimpernel and Montpeliers Pintor, a pair of colts who established a worlds record and track record, respectively, in their lone appearances. The Pimpernel, a son of Pavot — Chalara, raced to his worlds record down the Wide-ner chute at Belmont Park, being timed in :49% for four and one-half furlongs. Pintor is a grand-looking son of Goya n. — Stepladder and accomplished his. feat at Pimlico, where he raced around xhe turn and was timed in :59% for five-eighths of a mile. Warren Mehrtens will be back on The Pimpernel, while Nick Shuk will handle Pintor. . Youngsters who have already distinguished themselves, through victories and who are scheduled to compete in the Christiana ,re: Cornelius V. Whitneys Potpourri, C. Ewing Tuttles Rail Creek, Brook-meade Stables Springbuck, T. A. Sears Ocean Breeze, J. Graham Browns Well-blessed and Bobanet Stables Big Sweet. Rounding out the field for the five-furlong spin are: Circle M Farms Very Special, William Ziegler, Jr.s Battle Fury, Mrs. Z. Cohens War Age, Pete Groos* Knights Reward and H. W. Finchers War Atom. Rail Creek Won Last Two Starts One of the most improving colts in the Christiana is Rail Creek, a Coldstream — Even Tempo colt. This fellow, following two fair races, won his last two appearances in galloping fashion. In his most recent score he was timed five furlongs in 1:00% at Pimlico. On that occasion he easily beat Ocean Breeze, a son of Ocean Wave, who had won his only start impressively. 1 Potpourri has won once in four starts and a recent good effort assures his present top form. He was a bang-up second to Charlie McAdam, being beaten but a nose in :57% at Belmont. Springbuck, like Brookmeades sensational Preakness winner, Bold, is a son of By Jimminy and has shown excellent promise in his three-race program. He was beaten while encountering trouble in his last and prior to that was a good three-length winner. Big Sweet and Bellblessed, the only other winners in the field, scored their successes during winter racing. Big Sweet won at Gulfstream Park, while Wellblessed earned his graduation papers in New Orleans. He came back to be third in a stakes event at the same, point. Very Special, Battle Fury, War Age, Knights Reward and War Atom are non-winners, but it is too early in their racing careers to be condemned for such- a condition. Supporting attraction on the holiday program is the first in a series of five Montchanin Handicaps, an event which has been quite popular here in recent years. This race race, like the Kiamsensi series presented on Saturdays, increases in value and distance with each running. The field for the inaugural includes Ground Fog, Loran, Free Press, Broken Lens, Apachico, Spider Rock, Dr. Cricket, In or Else, Fifty-Five, Senoril, Trout Lure, - Butler and Relic Gold.
