; | . ! . ; Mon Speed Repeats Her Recent Detroit Success Leads Jessica B. by Almost One Length Under Jockey T. Barrow DETROIT, Mich., May 29. — Michigan Stables Mon Speed, under a well-judged ride from Tommy Barrow, became the first double winner of the current meeting today when he defeated seven other better-than-average sprinters in the three-quarters mile third race. Finishing strongly under punishment, Mon Speed sped to the wire with a three-quarters length margin over Wallace and Sitgraves Jessica B., while the latter took second honors by a half length from Theodore D. Buhls Crack Reward. Mr. and Mrs. L. Seaferts August, the early pacemaker, finished fourth. Mon Speed, overlooked by the majority of the crowd of 8,000 on hand this pleasant afternoon for the racing, returned 7.40 straight after stepping over the fast track in 1:12%. Try Ike, from the Henry Forrest barn, was the choice, and flattered with a nice display of early foot before giving way completely. During the last hree furlongs the favorite bore out badly while tiring, and failed to beat a horse. McKinnon and Westphals Meyersdale, handled by apprentice George Walker, annexed the six-furlong opener and Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Cohens Toleca, hustled along by Lois C. Cook, drove to a neck decision in the second race at a like route. The Daily Double payoff on the victorious duo "was 1.00.
