THE DERVISH, hustled along on the backstretch to make up ground on the leaders, went between horses to gain command and shook off SIGN HERE in the final sixteenth mile. The latter was prominent from the start while on the outside, made a bold bid in the stretch and faltered the final furlong. HAPPY VICTOR lacked speed in the going, closed strongly with a belated bid and came out of the race lame. HELLO PUDGY was within striking distance from the start and lacked a closing rally. BROKEN LENS, in good position under rating, moved up on the outside while steadied along to gain command and won easily. INCHCAPELLA saved ground while forwardly placed, but was no match for the winner. STRIKER PILOT was slow to begin, made a mild bid in the stretch and weakened. BROLITE, slow to gain best stride, dosed resolutely and should improve when sent a longer distance. HALCYARA gave way when displaced for the lead. TEANECK FLYER quit, as did THENDARA. MODEL QUEST went into command shortly after the start and rapidly drew into a commanding advantage; was under restraint until nearing the furlong post, then drew away under intermittent punishment until the end. BELLE JET was closest to the pace most of the way, but was no match for the winner. LOTOPEP had no excuse. LUSCIOUS FRUIT held on best of tired horses. STERLING MAID had brief speed and quit. GAME CHANCE went into command shortly after the break, was roused in midstretch, veered in sharply when punished at the furlong post and maintained a safe advantage under brisk handling until the end. DEVILWOOD drifted to the inside shortly . after the start, forced the pace throughout and bore out when faltering in the final sixteenth. The stewards inquired into the running and permitted the original finish order to stand. JAMIE K. eased back and was guided to the outside to avoid DEVILWOOD shortly after the start,- then held on determineldy until the wire. JOHN KAPLAN had no excuse. The latter, under light restraint while not far back, was forced a trifle wide and had to be steadied momentarily at the quarter-mile post while between horses, made up ground when clear and was getting to the winner. - GROVER B., well placed on the rail, swung wide leaving the turn and. lacked a closing rally. ARMAGEDDON pressed the pace on the rail, permitted GOLDEN GLOVES to draw clear after the opening quarter mile, came again when ready and reached command in the stretch, then gradually drew away GOLDEN GLOVES came to the rail after taking a clear lead before entering the turn, continued stubbornly until midway of the final furlong and faltered slightly. QUIET STEP, allowed to drop back early while on the inside, swung considerably wide leaving the turn, made a determined bid in the stretch and weakened in the drive. OLYMPIC saved ground under rating and failed to respond for the drive. MASTER FIDDLE was outrun. PINTOR made a mild bid nearing the quarter-mile post, then tired -suddenly and was eased up in the final sixteenth mile. CAJUN showed a poor effort over the footing. ROYAL CASTLE came out of the race lame. THE PHOENIX tired. FREEDOM WINS saved ground and had no excuse. FANBOROUGH lost his rider a stride after the start.
