Sweet Patootie Gallops To Easy Detroit Victory Shaffer Homebred Six Lengths Clear of Full Circle in Dash By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT, Mich., May 31. — Sweet Patootie, a homebred daughter of Alquest and Sweet Woman, by Roman, had too much for six rivals here today in the four and one-half furlongs fourth race and romped to an easy and popular victory. The Mrs. E. E. Dale Shaffer filly, alertly handled by Lois Cook, went to the front at the outset and coasted to the wire with a six-length margin over C. E. Buckleys Full Circle, who earned second honors by a bit more than a length before Michigan Stables Caboose. H. Broussards Louisiana-bred Iberia Boy lasted for fourth money after displaying a flash of early speed. The Shaffer junior miss, who was making her fourth appearance under colors, notched the second success of her brief career after streaking over the fast track in :53%, fastest time of the meeting for the juvenile dash distance. Charles Kenney, who managed Coldstream Stud when Sweet Patootie was foaled, stated that her dam, Sweet Woman, has a filly at side by Priam n. and that the Roman-sired. Matron was bred back this season to Noor. Kenney is visiting at the MRA course this week-end. Sweet Patootie dashed to the front at the start, although Iberia Boy measured strides with her for a sixteenth mile after the "line break" was effected. Triple Flight also flashed early speed, but the Schaffer filly shook off her challengers before reaching the stretch turn and drew out to win as jockey Cook pleased. Full Circle gave a good performance to garner the place while Caboose, a good winner in his previous local start, outgamed Iberia Boy for the minor portion of the purse. H. W. Kellehers Chevron Ace, under a hustling ride from Earl Van Hook, beat 11 other Michigan-owned three-year-olds in the six-furlong initial offering. Chevron Ace came from off the early pace during the-stretch run and was along for a length and three-quarters verdict over J. C. Mackenzies fast-finishing Lady Rowena. Just a half length way, Shangrila Stables Mister Mac, pacemaker for the greater part of the sprint distance, ran third. Chevron Ace, winner of two previous engagements this year, stepped the six furlongs in 1:13%, and she was the 12 to 5 favorite. Mrs. D. Christmas silks were carried to their initial success of the current meeting by Hard to Get, who defeated nine useful platers in the six-furlong second event. Taken to the front by jockey Warren Snyder soon after the start, the Christmas mare made every post a winner, reaching the final marker with a two-length margin on Howe and Stuckers Hals Linda. R and H Stables O. K. Doak closed gamely enough to get the short end of the purse, but was more than five lengths off Hals Linda. j
