Gene R regie Will Drive Even Direct at Maywood Latter Triumphs in Both Ends Of Memorial Pace on Thursday MAYWOOD PARK, Maywood, 111., May 31 —Young Gene Riegle of Greeneville, O., will attempt to add to his victory string Monday night when he drives the pacer Even Direct in the featured eighth race at Maywood Park. At 23, Riegle is one of the youngest trainers and drivers at the Maywood harness meeting. To date hes brought home nine winners against veteran competition that includes his father, Roy Riegle. His most important victories came Thursday night when he swept the ,500 Memorial Pace behind Red Sails. Gene will pilot Red Sails in the 0,000 Chicago Pacing Derby June 20. Even Direct will start from the pole position in Mondays feature, and ranks a prohibitive favorite in a field of seven pacers. Even Direct scored his first triumph of the year in his last start, going a creditable mile in 2:09 under Riegles guidance. The six-year-old Gay Song stallion is owned by C. D. Shafer of Lima, O. Opposing the favorite will be Ace Deuce, Beaver Hal, Fox DeLuxe, Click, Cash Kirk, and Jane Ruby. Ace Deuce, owned by Dr. J. B. Moore of Benton, 111., will be looking for Tiis third win of the meeting. He has finished second no less than eight times this year. Chicagoan Glenn Barkers Beaver Hal and E. P. Wagners Fox DeLuxe, from Springfield, also will be in searck of their third victories. Beaver /Hal will be driven by the veteran Glen Hawkins and Fox De-Luxe will have Bob Wagner, Maywoods second ranking driver, in his sulky. Click, Cash Kirk, and Jane Ruby have still to earn their first trip to the winners circle in 1952. Jane Ruby, owned and driven by Richard Yohn of Fall River, Wis., has started only once this season after winding up her 1951 campaign with five straight victories. Seven pacers who have shown a liking for shorter distances will match sprinting prowess in the seventh race at six furlongs. Hollis Regurs Uncle Buzz rates as overnight choice in a field that includes Leon Max Worthy, Tony Hal, Volo W., Pat C, Doug MT, and Strickland.
