FAST JEEP quickly moved up to challenge LOCHLADY from the outside, wrested command from that one on the turn and, after opening a long lead, lasted to hold BURNHAM WOOD under punishment. BURNHAM WOOD was unable to gain under intermittent rousing early, but never was far back and closed strongly in the final eighth. LOCHLADY began fastest but was immediately pressed for the lead by FAST JEEP and gave way, then held on fairly well in the stretch run. MISS FLUSHING raced in company with BURNHAM WOOD, but lacked his closing surge. RED-EMPEROR raced slightly wide in an even effort. SATISFIED was outrun. APPEARANCE was not a factor. SHERRY began fast, was under wraps while taking command on the stretch turn and established a long lead to win with something left. RISSAS SON was rated behind the first flight, came between horses for the final run and finished gamely SECNAV gradually improved position while racing on the outside and finished well. JOE-AUSSIE was slow to smooth into a running stride, then circled wide to close with belated courage. FLYING WEATHER, outrun into the stretch, saved ground and rapidly improved position near the end. SWEET VERMOUTH was nicely handled while closely pressing the leaders, quickly opened a commanding lead when roused entering the stretch and was , lightly steadied while besting LOTrA-BRASS. The latter was energetically ridden to improve his position while racing on the inside, finished willingly, but was no match for the winner. ROLLICKING LAD was a forward factor and finished evenly. G. R. PETERSEN saved all possible ground,- but was not dangerous. WISE IDEA was outrun. DUKE FANELLI did not like the footing. LETS LIVE had speed for a half mile and j quit. FLEET ACE outbroke the field, gamely repulsed early challenges from UNCLE JAY, remained under steady handling lo resist VALQUEST on the final turn and maintained his advantage while ridden out. VALQUEST moved up strongly from the outside on the turn and appeared ready to head the winner but hung and could not gain in the stretch drive. GIGGLE trailed the closely bunched field, to the stretch, then came to the extreme outside and closed willingly. UNCLE JAY was briskly hustled while vying for the lead next to the rail down the backstretch, then gradually weakened under punishment. SONIC could not keep up. MR. KING JOLIE, climbing through the first quarter milew hile being thrown down to be taken back from the pace, smoothed into running stride and gradually raced to the first flight from the outside after six furlongs, was carried wide into the stretch by PRIMATE, but under lefthand-punishment closed gamely to get the decision while drifting in on his rival in the concluding yards. PRIMATE, nicely rated in closest attendance to the early pace, was suddenly awakened to take command when KING JOLIE made his move on the final turn, bore out entering the stretch and held on determinedly under punishment while being forced in in the last strides. TOPSIDE, allowed to lag far behind for more than six furlongs, saved ground rallying and easily passed the remainder, but was no threat to the top pair. HANDSOME TEDDY, pocketed next to the rail while with the first flight, was. under snug restraint for five furlongs, but weakened when put to pressure. JAMPOC was well placed and put to hand urging after a half mile, but did not respond and steadily dropped back. ARMAGH was not dangerous. TOP BET was outrun.
