LEFTY JIM went to the front after the first quarter mile, opened up a daylight advantage and just lasted to hold safe the closing bid of TUBBY B. The latter, broke sluggishly, worked his way between horses in the stretch. GABBY H., unable to match the speed of the early leaders, was going willingly at the close. ASTEROIDE ran an even race. SUGAR ALLEY showed good early speed, tired in the stretch and may have needed the race. SHIRLEYS PRIDE turned in a dull effort after showing brief speed. LUSMORES, held in reserve for the first half mile, moved up gradually thereafter, was in a contending position turning for home and then wore down ANNAR in the final strides. ANNAR was a prominent contender from the start, took command after three-quarters of a mile and just failed to last. TOOTSIE McCABE took command soon after the start, surrendered the lead briefly to MARGARET B, then assumed command once more, opening a clear advantage, only to tire in the final furlong. HURRY PASS was prominent throughout and had no excuses. NORTH CLARK showed an even effort. DIBILLANE never was prominent. MARGARET B quit badly. Scratched— 56273 Linger, 110. RAMPAGEOUS, rated back of the leaders, moved very strongly after a half mile, took command deep in the stretch and had to be hard ridden to hold off ELISANN. The latter, outrun early, closed fastest of all. IF COMING, badly outdistanced for the first half mile, moved very strongly along the rail turning for home, was getting to the leaders, but hung in the drive. QUATRE CLOCK tired after making the pace. LADY JACSUN was through early after disputing the pace. Overweight— Miss Pyramid, 4 pounds. FOURTH RACE 1 MILE AND 70 YARDS. SNEAK EASY broke alertly, was ! taken off the pace, moved rapidly after a half mile, assumed command straightening out in the stretch and then outgamed LOT WON to the finish after both horses had engaged in bumping during the last 70 yards. LOT WON, close up at all times, made a determined move to engage the eladers after three-quarters, fought for command but just missed. PIRATE JEAN, outrun early, loomed as a solid threat at the head of the stretch but failed to produce speed in the drive. ENTHUSED, far back early, made only a mild bid in the stretch. GRAND DEMAND, reserved off the pace for the first three-quarters, moved to the leaders rounding the final turn, assumed command straightening out for the run to the wire and won handily. SNORKEL came from far back in a good effort,, but was unable to overtake the winner. SCIPIO trailed his field for the first half mile, picked up speed thereafter and closed willingly. EMPTY SEA set the early pace, but tired badly entering the stretch. IM MARIE displayed high speed from the satrt, but was unable to withstand the bid of the winner in the final sixteenth. MR. SONGBIRD, away alertly, opened up a daylight advantage and only tired in the final seventy yards. ANNS LOVE dropped back soon after-the start, then closed with a rush. ALOT O LAKE showed early speed.
