Highly Successful Jackson Meet Closes Next Saturday JACKSON, Mich., May 31. — Jackson Raceway will conclude its most successful harness racing meeting on Saturday, June 7, and this in spite of the fact that the first three weeks of the scheduled 32-night meeting had seven "rain-outs," twice as many as were recorded in Michigans 137 nights of the trotting sport last year. At the end of 17 racing nights, Jackson Raceways mutuel wagering had passed the 1951 total set in 23 nights. Percentage-wise the Jackson track was showing a 52% increase over the corresponding period of a year ago. This figure was expected to go even higher during the final weeks racing. Attendance totals were up 40%. The Ingham Trot scheduled for Monday, June 2, and the Lucas Pace on Wednesday, June 4 — both for two-year-olds — will wind up the scheduled stake events. The Governors Marathon Pace, a mile and a half event planned for the closing night, failed to fill. In its stead, a mile pace honoring Governor G. Mennen Williams is being planned for a field of the fastest-stepping pacers at the track. The governor is expected to be in attendance to present a blanket to the winner.
