JOHN HART — Sends out the six-year-old Convicted in the second half of the Alpena Purse at Detroit today. ► i i Detroit Race Course Offers Alpena Purse in Two Sections Little Xs and Diamond Lane* Likely Choices in Respective Ends of Six-Furlong Event DETROIT, Mich., May 31.— The Alpena, a three-quarters mile claiming event which will be decided in two divisions, is the best offering programmed for presentation Monday at this Motor City racing grounds. Ten useful sprinters are slated to meet in each end of the Alpena, which is spotted fifth and sixth on the card. C. A. Nicholas Little Xs, a recent winner at the local oval, appears to hold a slight edge over nine rivals in the first section of the Alpena and she will be ridden by Earl Van Hook. Major opposition for the Nicholas mare probably will be furnished by Marion H. Van Bergs Rose Bed, second to Ky.Hash in her initial local outing, and Mrs. Frank Staffords Gay Ten, who was fourth in the sprint annexed by Ky. Hash. Lois Cook is to handle Rose Bed and Eddie Danhauer may be up on Gay Teh. Others named for ,the dash are Adelard Lamoureux Duke Boswell, F. E. Arnolds Mister Perfect, Andrews and Zakoors The Peer, Victor in a three-quarters mile offering Memorial Day, and Myron Smiths Old Burlap, who recently visited the local winners ring. Also Pollard and Harkins Nice Tint, Jerry McCarthys Smarty Jacopo, and Shangrila Stables Byronic. Thearl Williams is engaged to guide Old Burlap while Willie Zakoor will pilot The Peei Second Division Well Matched The second division of the Alpena should develop into an interesting qontest inasmuch as several of the entrants have displayed good form and the field appears quite evenly-matched. Bernice Irvins Diamond Lane, who is to be handled by jockey Lois Cook, won in Kentucky before transfer to Detroit and Adler and Zakoors Homing Pigeon, who gets in with 108 pounds, providing she is ridden by an apprentice reins-man, has shown occasional flashes of class and rated dangerous with her light weight. Mrs. D. Michealechs Sailing Home, a good winner in Maryland, also warrants consideration in her section of the Alpena. Arthur Roses Rival, Greenacres Stock Farms Evelyn L., John Harts Convicted and C. F. Wagners King. Wilson are ex- pected to go well in the sprint. Mrs. J. H. Woodcocks Sir Walter R., D. L. Laughters Little Danny, and Andy Handy, a member of the Jerry Lynch, Inc., establishment, completes the likely starting band. The one mile and one-sixteenth seventh race probably will be the best supporting attraction on- the Monday program and eight useful middle distance performers are scheduled to go to the post in a mile and one-sixteenth number. E. H. Moodys Riot, a fashionably-bred gelder son of Whirlaway and Miss Dogwood, who was second to Little Xs in a six furlongs sprint Inaugural day, is the overnight favorite to whip Steve Chris Dealer, C.
