UNITED PRESS • NEWS -BRIEFS J Eisenhower Bound for Washington j PARIS, Prance, May 31.— Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower left by plane for Washington today to retire from active service and become an open candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. He will make his final report as the retiring Allied Supreme Commander in Washington Monday and Tuesday and then, in his home town of Abilene, Kansas, on Wednesday make a speech which may prove to be a major political pronouncement. Eisenhowers plane took off from Orly Airport here at 2:00 p. m. 8.00 a, m., CDT, he is due in Washington tomorrow afternoon. Predicts Truman Will Get Nomination WASHINGTON, D. C. May 31.— Rep. Daniel A. Reed, R., NlY. predicted today that President Truman will get the 1952 Democratic presidential nomination "by virtue of the most sinister and un-American political strategem in all our national history." J., May 31.— Sen. H. Alexander Smith R., N. J. has called for a federation of all the nations between the Baltic and Adriatic Seas to aid republics now dominated by Russia. "Certainly we should not anticipate future wars to settle the question of nationalism and particularly to settle the question of boundaries," Smith said here. "Poland is entitled to be restored, so that as far as possible, peoples of Polish origin can live together." Handy Demands Reds Halt Interference BERLIN, Germany, May 31. — Gen. Thomas T. Arraign Weinberg on Perjury Charges MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., May 31. — Dr. Joseph W. Weinberg, 35, "Scientist X" accused of giving atomic secrets to a Com- munist leader, left today for Washington where he will be arraigned Monday on perjury charges. The charges were filed by the House committee on un-American activities and Weinberg was indicted last week by a Federal grand jury. Police Raid Red HQ Throughout France PARIS, France, May 31. — Police stormed Communist headquarters throughout France today, smashed resistance with rifle butts, clubs and tear gas and seized tons of documents in search of evidence of a . Red subversive plot against the government. Hundreds of rifle-swinging police and security guards took the barricaded national headquarters of the Communist Party here in a 2V2 -hour battle.
