FREE PIONEER, never loo far back while forced to race wide throughout on the outside of the leaders, responded to brisk pressure in the drive and was along in the final stride. FOLLY MILLS, under strong restraint while well placed, rushed up boldly from between horses into the stretch to open up a clear lead, then could not withstand the winner. JOHNSON T. weakened steadily in the final eighth. EVEN U. had no response in the drive. TELBRAS flattened out under pressure. MIGHTY IKE raced between horses throughout, made a mild bid leavinn the far turn, then weakened. F. 0. BEE saved ground to no avail while lacking clear racing room at times. PURPLE LADY found room along the inner rail to move swiftly into contention goinq into the stretch and outfinished DARK ETCHING. The latter was carried slightly wide by COUNTS BOUQUET into the stretch and then could not keep pace with the winner in the final sixteenth. JACKIES FOLLY broke sluggishly, was rushed to contention on the outside and forced to lose ground on the turn, finished with good energy. COUNTS BOUQUET rushed up tTlong the inside to force the pace, had to be steadied on the turn while attempting to get out and weakened in the drive. HIGH RATE had brief speed. Scratched-James P. PICKS GIRL rushed to the leader midway on the turn, gained command into the stretch and. after drawing off slightly, was ail out at the finish to withstand HOMER R. The latter sprinted off to a good lead immediately after the start, dropped back slightly in midstretch, then was coming on again in the late yards and just missed. SIR MODRED could not menace. MILADY MOWLEE had to be taken out of tight quarters going around the first turn, was taken to the outside down the backstretch and, after reaching a forward position, was kept in hand to the stretch where she took command, then withstood QUARTER-MASTER. The latter, taken far back early, closed with a good burst of late speed. RIMSICKLE weakened in the final run. TONES TRICIA rushed up along the inside to reach near even terms with the leader going to the far turn and then had nothing left for the drive. SPECIAL CHOICE flattened out under pressure. MAGIC ELIXER was disqualified fi and placed third after Jockey Venuti claimed foul. SASKATCHEWAN moved strongly between horses entering the stretch and closed with good courage. A TOUTE FORCE held a slight advantage from the start and could not recover in the drive after being bumped twice. BIG MARK saved ground throughout but weakened in 01 the final run. THE CRACK saved ground early while hard urged to keep fairly close to the leader, was suddenly taken out in the midstretch when the leader appeared to come in and was along in the last sixteenth to gain command and quickly drew off. MAYOR WILL C. opened up a commanding lead on the turn, drifted wide into the stretch, then came back to the inside and tired. STEPPING BOY was going willingly when too late. REAL ROUGH held a forward position leaving the far turn, steadied briefly when the winner came out in front of him and weakened. Jockey Man Hcok claimed foul against the winner which was disallowed.
