Barbizon Delaware Valley Probable Posts Time of 1:1 2f In Excellent Trial King Hairan, High Sparkle, Base Runner, True Verdict Also Seek Stakes Saturday CAMDEN. N. J.. May 8.— Calumet Farms Barbizon will probably go postward in Saturdays 5,000-added Delaware Valley Stakes at Garden State Park. Thus, the son of Polynesian would be returning to the scene of his greatest triumph as he captured last years thrilling running of the Garden State, worlds richest race. That victory was an important step in the colts being named Best Two-Year-Old of the Year. Trainer Jimmy Jones remained at Garden State Park today to watch Barbizon in a morning speed trial. He had planned to go to Maryland to supervise the unloading of Iron Liege, Kentucky Derby winner, and Gen. Duke, which had been shipped up from Kentucky. His stay here was rewarding for he saw Barbizon step six furlongs in 1:13%, a trial which pleased Jones and put the colt on the "very probable" list for the Delaware Valley. Last Raced at Gulfstream Park Barbizon arrived here Monday from Kentucky. His last race came at Gulf-stream after which he was shipped to the Kentucky farm. There. Barbizon became slightly ill and was rested for a spell. When he was returned to training, he displayed the same brand of speed which carried him to championship honors last season This mornings trial was the first he has had at the Garden track. Willie Hartack, just in from Kentucky, the scene of his most important triumph of the year, will do the booting astride Barbizon on Saturday. Meanwhile, other members of the prospective starting field were carrying on their assignments for the week-end special. I King Hairan was merely galloped and will | have a final blowout Friday. L Trainer Harry Wells has announced that ! he will start both Woodland Farms High i Sparkle and Raritan Stables Base Runner j in the three-year-old fixture. The William G. Helis Jr. establishment ! also is expected to fire a double-barrel shot [ with True Verdict and Pearl Prince. The former has been announced as a definite starter and trainer Howard Hausner declared there is an excellent chance both will accept the challenge. Other expected starters in the Delaware , ; Valley are Carolyn K. Stables Pro-Brandy, R. T. Curleys Supper Money, Harford Stables Princeton. Mrs. Walter M. Jeffords Bakht. John S. Kellys Waissail and P. andr W. Stables Lucky George. In addition to Hartack, other known riding assignments aie Sam .Boulmetis on High Sparkle. Walter Blum astride Base Runner, Roger LeBlanc on Pearl Prince. If. N. Gonzales aboard Lucky George and Lionel Lefebvre on Waissail. Trainer Lenny Hunt still hopes Eddie Arcaro will ride King Hairan, but Eddie momentarily has tentative commitments in j New York on the week end. BARBIZON — Last years Garden State winner may return to action in Saturdays Delaware Valley Stakes at Garden State Park.
