Classy Triumvirate Heads for Balmoral Bolin, Truman, Burton Plan To Ride Throughout Meet; Opens Monday in Homewood HOMEWOOD. 111.. May 8.— Names of Harrel Bolin and Jerry Truman, racings newest apprentice jockey sensations, and Australian import. C. A. Burton, were added today to the roll-call of riders being assembled for the Balmoral Jockey Clubs spring meeting, which opens Monday at Washington Park. The three will join such Chicago regulars as John Heckmann. leading rider at the Fair Grounds this winter; Charlie Burr, who topped the standings at Gulfstream Park; perennial Chicago favorite. John Adams, nations outstanding grass jockey, and Dave Erb, annually among the Midwests leading stakes riders. All will accept mounts for Mondays opening card of the Balmoral-at -Washington meeting. Featuring the program will be the 5,000 Coronet Stakes, six-furlong test for three -year-old fillies. Burton was one of Australias better riders last year. Since he succumbed to the lure of the American racing scene recently. he has been riding with considerable success for Freeman Keyes Reverie Knoll Farm in Kentucky. He has impressed veteran horsemen with his keen sense of pace and his strong handling of horses in the stretch. Top Apprentice at Gulfstream Burton will continue to give Reverie Knoll Farm first call on his services during the 97 -day coordinated Balmoral -Arlington-Washington meeting. Bolin, already well known for his daring stretch finishes, currently is rated the nations most promising young rider. He was Gulfstream Parks top "bug" boy with 21 winners and a handsome percentage of .25. His biggest day was last April 18. when he piloted five winners in -eight tries. His best single achievement came when he rode the extreme outsider. La Verite, to a spectacular upset victory over Federal Hill in the 5,000 Biscayne Bay Handicap. Truman also edged in for his share of the Gulfstream spotlight, finishing up with the Gulfstream spotlight, finishing up with 17 winners as runner-up to Bolin among the apprentices. He is under contract to Paul Kelly and James D. Morris Spring Hill Farm. Heckmann. long a favorite here, is maintaining the phenomenal form that placed him among the nations leading money riders last year. Hell serve as first string rider for R. W. Mcllvains powerful Walmac Farm, and is expected to be one of the leading jockeys of the spring -summer1 campaign. Burr gave thumping evidence at Gulfstream that he is riding in the best form since 1951 when he was the nations leading jockey. Erb, who will ride free lance throughout the Chicago season, looms as the man to beat for the title of No. 1 stakes rider here. He will be aboard Swoons Son.
