NATIVE SON had his speed, saved ground much of the way and just failed to last. LEONARDIAN closed a big gap after a very sluggish beginning. TEDS JOY was forwardly placed from the outset but was not quite good enough. HARTSVILLE appeared to hang slightly after making a bold bid along the inside on entering the stretch. GOOD BOOK, never a great distance back, was forced to come wide when rallying on the second turn and, in a long drive, proved narrowly the best over INKYANK. The latter made the pace while in hand, saved ground and just failed to last. COOKS TOUR, sore going postward, broke slowly, was under intermittent pressure throughout and appeared to hang slightly in the stretch. WAR PLUME was through early. COUNTESS MARCY passed only tiring horses. CONTESSA* EVA was never a contender. NIZAMIS DOLL raced with the topflight to the stretch where she bore out badly when put to a drive.
