Sticks, a five-year-old gelding enough to start in the Preaknes, was much too strong for the small field opposed to him in the Alsab Purse, a high-grade claiming race here this afternoon, and won by five lengths. With jockey Ken Church doing the riding, Sticks, owned by Frank Benner, came from last place in the first-part to win simply airing from Our Boy Bill, while Black Bounty was third. Jockey John Heckmann, who rode Our Boy Bill, was landing in second place for the fourth time during the afternoon. Our Boy Bill Breaks First Our Boy Bill was first to appear in front m the event and he was followed closely down the backstretch by Deb Chaser, who was racing on the inside. Deb Chaser made a good move in an attempt to take command nearing the far turn, but Our Boy BUI repelled him to again draw out as they neared the stretch turn. In each instance John Heck-mann, who is runner-up to Burr for the honors, was on the horse that finished second. Goldonca was required to withstand a claim of foul to get the honors. Hedkmann alleged that the miss had borne out on his charge, Will Tell, during the stretch run. It was a waste of time as the claim was not allowed. Mr. Donmar had little trouble winning from Billagain. Doug Dodson rode the fast-breaking two-year-old Leather Button to success in the opener. The race was for two-year-old maidens and Leather Button, a gelding by Phar Mon, bested Hue and Cry, with Logs Pride, the favorite, third. Apprentice James Preston piloted one of his infrequent winners when he had Miss Run More just last to beat Barbareba in the second and the Daily Double paid 7.60. War King, formerly a shifty sprinter, was too good for the field opposed to him in the fourth and the 10-year-old, ridden by Tony Skoronski, paid off well in defeating Ignition, who made the pace. The sixth race was taken by Spanish Trail; with Jerry Truman in the saddle. Heckmann again finished second when his charge, One Putt, was caught by Spanish Trail in the last sixteenth.
