Jimmy the One Popular Governors 7Cap Winner Sonny Time Goes at Ak-Sar-Ben In Todays Ladies Day Feature By DEAN WILLIAMS AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 3.-Jimmy the .One registered a popular win in last Saturdays renewal of the Governors Handicap at Ak-Sar-Ben. Last year the Olen Sledge colorbearer finished second to Freedoms Pride in the mile and 70 yards handicap, but Saturday he left little doubt of his superiority. The Bernborough gelding was trailing during the early part of the race, as he is usually content to do. Given an excellent ride by jockey Eddie Burns, Jimmy the One thrilled fans as he began his move entering the far turn, Burns had his mount in front at the head of the stretch. He had no trouble in increasing it to a length and one-half at the wire. The pace-setting outsider, Step Alone, finished second and returned 0.00 to place, while W. J. Lewis Jr.s Royal Mon was third. Step Alone opened a four-length lead after six furlongs, and it appeared he may go all the way, but he tired in the final furlong. Though the W. G. Alexander gelding was soundly defeated, this may have been one of the top performances of his racing career. The week-end crowd totalled 13,839, which was down a bit from the same day last year. The clear skies and cool temperatures made it an excellent day for racing and the handle reached 81,912 for the nine-race program. Tuesday, which is Ladies Day at Ak-Sar-Ben, will usher in the third full week of racing in Omaha. The track will honor the National League of Postmasters, who are holding a convention in Omaha this week. Mi, and Mrs. M. H. Robineaus Sonny Time, a winner earlier this year at Santa Anita, will endeavour to make it two in a row at Ak-Sar-Ben Tuesday in the featured race, the National League of Postmasters Purse. The son of Signal Time won the first time he was sent postward by trainer E. E. Presnell. He -vent to the post in the role of favorite and gave local patrons a few tense moments as he came from behind to catch W. F. Riggs Flying Jet at the wire. Sonny Time will be asked to meet a bit stiffer competition in his engagement Tuesday, but he has been training steadily, putting him in the peak of condition. The Robineau gelding, who is a full brother to the stakes winning. Auntie, attracted a great many followers in his first start at Ak-Sar-Ben and should again go to the post as the publics choice. Al Turners Deneesy and Glen Taylors Shes a Bang, who are both winners in Omaha, head the remainder of the field which includes Phil Raaschs Lee Mor, Velma G. Lentzs Soma, Olen Sledges May-b-More, John Winters Isaprince, Cedar Valley Stables Eternal Moon, J. Warner and W. S. McKees Run Counsellor, James Pokornys Taos Cross and Al Cascios Uptrend.
