Dogoon Dogoon Faces Faces Quintet Quintet at at Balmoral; Balmoral; Colonel Colonel R.S. R.S. Registers Registers Neck Neck Decision Decision Wins at Expense Of Frohlich Immer Gonzalez Rides Confidently; Patagonian Third; All Three Christiana, Doyer Eligibles By CHARLES HATTON DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del!, June 3. A playful chestnut colt called Colonel R. S. enlivened an otherwise routine program this damp, overcast afternoon as he carried the coral and blue Four R Stable colors successfully in the five furlongs of the Sea Snack Purse. This event was for maidens, but was given a fillip of academic interest for the reason it engaged several eligibles for the Christiana and Dover. With jockey Manuel N. Gonzalez riding him confidently, the son of Eight Thirty left his rivals exhausted, an estimated crowd of 11,500 excited and some of them richer by 1.40 for as he won by a neck at the direct expense of Baylor Hickmans favored Frohlich Immer. A length and a quarter back of the two leaders, Patagonian, the winners stable-mate, finished third, just a nose before Ragtime Cowboy. Each of the first three is eligible for the two-year-old stakes. Colonel R. S. and Patagonians owners are the four Reynolds brothers, Abram D., of Anchorage, Ky.; David P., of Louisville, and Julian L. and Richard Jr., of Richmond, Va. They are interested in the Reynolds Metals Co., well known in the aluminum industry. Trained by Dowries The two colts are trained by young Russell M. Downes. It was this conditioner who in 1955 saddled Polls Jet to win the Christiana and his stablemate, Aughill, to beat two others for the Dover in what was the smallest stakes field in Delaware Parks history. Colonel R. S., a product of Leslie Combs n.s famed Spendthrift Farm, had made only four previous starts, in one of them finishing second, a neck behind Terra Firma, at Keeneland. He and Patagonian started off being favorites for the Sea Shack, but the players seemed to undergo agonies of indecision and in all made a total of three favorites. Midway the tote action, they went to Mickey Boy, then in the final minutes installed the gelded Fromlich Immer German for "Always Jolly" as their choice, x Frohlich Immer looked like vindicating their second guessing into the stretch, dashing out of the gate in the lead and ; shaking off Betsy Cee, then opening up a length on the turn. The entry were never out of touch with him, however, and in the last furlong, Colonel R. S. went to Fromlich Immer with a bid he could not deny, " try as he would over the last yeards. In fact, Colonel R. S. was a comfortable winner despite the narrowness of the margin, as he appeared to ease himself at the end and Fromlich Immer, continuing on steadily, was regaining lost ground. This was incidentally the third success in the young history of the Four R Stable. It had scored one purse before the Delaware meeting began, won another with! Grey Admiral Friday. I
