; Breeders7 Stakes To Eddie Schmidt Elobee Farms Homebred Son Of Count Speed Superior to Six Hollywood Park Rivals By Staff Correspondent HOLLYWOOD PARK, Inglewood, Calif., June 3. Eddie Schmidt, a four-year-old by Count Speed and Paradise, bred and owned by the Elobee Farm, asserted his superiority over six other older horses foaled in California when he won the 7,-400 Golden State Breeders Handicap at Hollywood Park last Saturday. The Elobee colt, ridden by Ismael Valenzuela, and packing 116 pounds, ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1:42 and was up in time to win by three parts of a length from the Kerr Stables Family Album who, in turn, beat another Elobee representative, Nored-ski, a neck for the place. Fourth to complete the distance was the topweighted Lover Boy who was carrying 120 pounds and who also was flying the Kerr silks. In order behind the first four came Count Chic, Forthebest and High Chalk. Set Sail for Pacemaker Eddie Schmidt raced along in the middle of the field to the second turn and then Valenzuela called upon him. The colt responded willingly and entering the final straightaway he moved into second place and set sail for the pacemaking Family Album. The latter, who at one time was three lengths inthe lead, still had a length advantage over Eddie Schmidt with, only a furlong to go, but a little farther along the Elobee horse took over and held his nearest opponent safe the rest of the way. Though not quite, able to withstand the winner Family Alburn held on well to stall off Noredski who raced the entire distance in third position. Lover Boy, who with Family Album was the favorite at odds of 9-to-10, made a mild challenge on the second turn, but he hung in the drive and finished two lengths behind Noredski. Count Chic and Forthebest were never serious factors, but High Chalk raced closest to the pace for about three-quarters of a mile. Then he stopped badly. As second choice in the wagering Eddie Schmidt paid .90 for while his net share of the purse was 5,100. Eddie Schmidt was scoring- his first victory in six starts this year after having been second in three other engagements. In one he was runner-up to Pibe Carlitos in the 00,000 William P. Kyne Memorial Handicap and in another he was second to Infantry in the Childrens Hospital Handicap.
